British Rose Wall Sconces

Well, I've been at it again....
I guess by now you all know I can't sit still and just take it easy can I?

I went to Lowes yesterday evening to buy new door knobs for all of our doors.  We still had those brassy ones that I despised!  But that's another story.  Anywho...I saw these beauties and knew I wanted them.  I've been wanting wall sconces for a long time now but could never find them in my budget.

Of course I knew I was going to paint them white.  I had seen these but at $50 a pop, I wasn't willing to pay that just yet.

Maybe later....but isn't this gorgeous?  I always seem to buy things I can re-do to save a little bit of moolah!  Plus it feels nicer knowing that I am making something unique.

I bought a lighting kit with a switch.  I forgot to take a photo so I am using one from Google.

I cut the wires from the candle base and wired them to the back of the wall sconce.  I used electrical tape and plugs to make it nice and safe.

And here they are, hung with a cord cozy and with the shades I made.  I just had enough of the British Rose fabric to make them.  I was sweatin'....no room for error!

I think they really turned out lovely and the light they give out in this dark area works great.

Now, I don't have to worry about having a floor lamp here anymore.

I love how them look with the mirror and the Spanish window frame.  Oh, and did you notice I added a back to the window and painted it blue?

The total cost was under $50 for everything.  And just think...if I would have bought the white ones I'd be in it for more than $100!

Blue Mason Jars and My New Rug

I have been wanting to make these jars hang for awhile so today I went for it.  I got out my wire, wire snips and my robo grips...and voila!  I love these little jars!  Perfect in Hannah's room with her beachy theme.  I thought they would be nice to keep her earrings and necklaces in for easy access.

I made four of them all together.  I want to make some for this summer for my flowers...wouldn't they look so pretty with fresh flowers in them?!!

I love this one on the kitchen window shutter!

And this one too!!!

I also have been wanting to rip out the pointy prong that holds the candle in place in these so that I could put a little plate in it.  I thought the little cup and saucer were perfect for a candle and added a little color.

They add a little bit of pink, can ya tell?

I fooled around with my china on the table today too.  I love having these set out to see, adds a nice little springy touch.  Today was so nice and sunny....I really wanted to play with so many things!

See how sunny it was?  Oh, and I hung a new/old window.  I just love it!

Last week I ordered new rugs for the living room, hallway and kitchen.  This one is 10 years old...it's been a great one but I was so tired of it!

This is what I finally made my mind up on.  I had so many to choose from but felt this one would not be too overpowering for the room.  I really fell in love with it when I put it down.  I'll show the hallway and kitchen rugs later.  They are runners.  I'm having a time getting them to lay down after being rolled up so tight.

So there was my day in a nut shell.  I've had a great day today just playing...something I really needed after a crappy day yesterday.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

I have had a wonderful day with my family.  The hubby took the day off to spend with me...but we had two girls with us because of the weather and no school so the lovin' was a little hard to fit in, lol.

He took all us gals out to eat which was a real treat since we've been sticking to this low sodium diet.  I think we all had plenty to eat and our eyes were bigger than our bellies!

My beautiful PINK roses that my sweetie bought me...aren't they beautiful?!!!  Perfect for in my white pitchers don't ya think?!

And look what He got from me...chocolate covered strawberries!  Sara gave me the chocolate covered cherries with the sweet thought about my salt intake.  2 are only 10 mg's of sodium!  She was so thoughtful....

Poor little Hannah didn't get to go out to buy us anything which is fine with us...but I think she may have worried a bit about it because she kept saying that she hadn't been taken anywhere.  Sara has her own car to go places, poor Hannah has to depend on us, lol.

I love my girls...

Now, here's what I made the night before Valentine's Day.  I thought it needed some ruffles added to it.  Didn't it turn out so pretty?  See, I told you all I was kidding myself when I said I was done with our retreat....

I made this too while I had the sewing machine out.  It was a little farm stool that was painted blue.

And look at this beautiful window!  We hung it in place of the smaller one.  I love it!

Well, that's it for now.  I hope you all have had a blessed Valentine's Day and that you feel loved!

Nothing better than being loved by someone or our pets!

Columns

It all started with these columns....do you remember when I bought them last Summer?  This is what I wanted to do with them originally but they weren't tall enough.  So, after sitting in the garage, I just couldn't take it anymore!

I sweet talked the hubster into making a cornice to sit on top of them.  So off to Lowes I went!

When we sat them at the opening to our bedroom area, I was thrilled at what I saw even before we were finished!

And here they are, all gussied up!  I have always wanted a cornice but had no way of attaching it to the drop ceiling.  We only had one wall to attach it to so we just never did it.

I really am HAPPY with how everything turned out!

But I am sure you all know when you start on something, you end up doing more than what you had planned on.

I bought this beautiful mirror knowing that I would paint it of course.  I know many think I am crazy because it was beautiful all on it's own, but I am not a gold lover.

This is so me....all white and distressed!

Now, where in the world was I going to put it?

I first thought here, but I knew it really would be beautiful as a floor mirror.  It was just way too tall for this space.

This is where it ended up....and I love it!

I needed something above it....I had just the thing!
An old chandy I made years ago into a battery operated one.  I added the crystal garland for some sparkle and it made me say ahhhh...

I had to move some furniture around, really I played musical chairs.  I have way too much stuff!

I moved this chair out a bit to make room for the mirror.  Thankfully the entrance is wide enough for all of my junk.

I absolutely love topiaries, so I had to put one here.  I had a chair sitting here before the columns, but I knew it wasn't gonna fit!

So, I put it here along with a little chest that I had in the garage.  I had to paint it first though.  I had to move the sofa and chaise, but I made room!

See?  It's so cozy here!  No wonder the hubby stays here when he's home.

There is plenty of room for all of my stuff!
And without stubbing toes!

Now I can get to the window a lot easier to pull down the shade at night without standing on the chaise to do it.

And the fireplace got an update too.

So for now, I think I am done with our bedroom.  Oh,  who am I kidding....

Our Wedding, 23 Years Ago

23 years ago, I married the most wonderful man in the whole wide world!  For better or for worse, in sickness in health...that has been us!

Our wedding was very inexpensive but beautiful back then.
It truly was a wonderful, glorious day!

I absolutely loved my gown, I still do to this day!  The shoes were even lace and I think even back then I had that romantic love in my heart.  I even wore a crown!

The lace, chiffon and satin were perfect together along with all of the seed pearls and sparkles.  Wouldn't it be nice to be that small again?!  Look at how tiny my waist was!!!  Well, many Resee cups later it's not quite like it used to be....

Mammaw was so happy for me and absolutely adored Mike.  She looked radiant that day, and she just glowed with love.

She always stood so tall and had class oozing out of every pore.  How I miss her so!

I have one regret...I really do wish I had my Uncle Jack walk me down the aisle and give me away.  But back then, I was trying to keep peace with my step dad so he was the one that did.

I think Mike was a nervous wreck unlike me...I was so calm that day.  All I wanted was to get to the honey moon!

My sweetheart....his kiss.... that has always melted me to my knees still to today!

He was and has always been a hard worker.  His hands told the tale.  He was a block mason when we were first married.

I bet our Pastor that married us would be so proud that we've made it this far...unlike so many now a days.

My proud but sad Mom...how she missed me when I moved out.  She loves Mike, they have always had such a great relationship.  Something I am so thankful for!

The cake topper was from my Mother's wedding to my Dad.  We re-made it and it was so very special to me.  Even back then I was crafty.

We were both starving!

He had a little mischievous look in his eye...he had orders to not cram cake in my face!

It amazes me to look back and see how different things are done now with decorating receptions.  But even then this was pretty.

He was such a gentleman...

On our way, we were both so excited to be married!

And they drove off into the sunset and lived happily ever after!

Well, almost, lol!

This is our anniversary present to each other.  Isn't it funny how times like these with this water issue that presents take on a totally different meaning?  We are both tickled to death to have this!
